Lehigh Valley Beautiful: Dana Emswiler

Backstory:

As you may already know, earlier this year, I started the Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project. My intent was, and is, an effort to celebrate those in our community who are going the extra mile; lending more than a hand; loving with a fierce and unafraid spirit – and truly making a difference. So many wonderful people give back to our community with no desire for recognition. However, when we recognize someone who is making a difference – it gives us an opportunity. We have the opportunity to not only love that person back, but also to come alongside and make an even bigger impact.

Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project

Lehigh Valley friends, I would love to present you with another amazing member of our community and Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project nominee, Dana Emswiler. Dana is a truly impressive young lady who lives with a determined spirit, thoughtful disposition and carries a bounty of wisdom wherever she goes. She knows what she wants to do and has an unheard of amount of direction for someone so young.

Dana’s young life is a testament to what it means to push through strong resistance in an effort to meet goals, pursue dreams and enrich the lives of others. Dana suffers from a Vitamin D deficiency that left her with extreme fatigue and neurological challenges. Additionally, Dana found herself with more unexpected medical issues when she was diagnosed with gastroparesis. Her compromised health situation did not phase her drive and desire to serve, however. Dana completed over 1,000 hours of community service during her high school career – all the while maintaining a GPA of 4.4.

Outside of school, Dana’s activities are plentiful and all for a greater cause. Dana was the Teen Chair for Teen Works – engaging in various outreach initiatives – chairing activities and serving on the board. She volunteered with the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley. Dana was also an active member of the Applewood Homeowners Association – serving as a committee member; a summer activities coordinator; and was the recipient of the Good Apple Award for Citizenship. Dana was also a DaVinci Science Center Women in Science & Engineering Advisory Council member.

Within her high school, Dana was an active member, and President, of the Key Club with various roles through the years. She served as Geo Club President and Event Coordinator as well as an active member in related activities. Dana was Co-President of the Welcome Pack; Student Council Treasurer; on the Varsity Swimming and Diving Team in 9th and 10th grades. She also served as a Parkland District Health and Wellness Council Student rep as well as a Middle States Planning Community Rep and was an Honor Society Member – as well as recipient of the Principal’s List of Academic Achievement.

Dana was also awarded the prestigious Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation award (1 of 150 recipients in the nation)*. While Dana’s high school achievements were vast, impressive, and fully-involved, she has no plans to stop now. She looks forward to studying Industrial Engineering and continuing to serve others at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dana is an amazing role model for others – young and old. Her perseverance and willingness to push through difficult circumstances is inspiring and something we can all take note from. Dana’s level of serving is something that comes naturally to her; she has been encouraged by her parents’ watching them love on and help others. She believes that when people work together, despite their differences, to achieve a common goal – unity abounds. I have to agree!  I am so grateful that Dana’s story won’t stop with her high school career. This girl is set to do more great things and change the world with lots of love and determination. Here’s to this Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project recipient and all the joy she brings to those in and outside of Lehigh Valley.

xoxo,

Jessica

Lehigh Valley Beautiful: Amber Clark

Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project

Dear friends, my photography business is about so much more than capturing moments. It’s about exposing lives…in the most meaningful and beautiful way possible.

Back in February, I started the Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project.

Meet Amber Clark

Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project Allentown Photographer

It’s time for me to turn the spotlight on our very first Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project nominee, Amber Clark. Amber is a wonderful woman, with a true heart to serve. She is backed with full-on support and encouragement from her wife, Karla, while she works hard to make a difference in our community. Amber realizes that impact does not come with an age-limit, so she makes certain to include her five-year-old daughter along the way as well. She knows the importance of teaching her daughter the heart and soul behind a giving spirit.

Amber is the kind of woman who hears about a need, and goes after it with fierce and driven soul. When Amber heard of a two-year-old child battling cancer, set set-up a diaper drive. Then she followed up with a bake sale of grand proportions. She sold 2,760 cupcakes and raised nearly $4,000 for the family of this child. Amber’s heart is truly for causes that affect children and families. That alone is Lehigh Valley Beautiful Project worthy, if you ask me.

On another occasion, Amber learned of a man who was regularly foregoing lunch and dinner so his family would have the food and resources to eat, as it was very hard for them to make ends meet – even for the essentials. Amber rallied the community and, as a result, two SUVs were filled with food and Christmas gifts for the families. Amber’s heart and her ability to reach out and connect, once again, paid off for this family.

Amber is also devoted to community organizations. She made treat bags (along with her daughter) for local first responders. She is part of several Lehigh Valley organizations that promote peace, equality and raise awareness. As Amber says, “once your eyes are opened…you can’t unsee it.” Amber also keeps the starfish analogy close to her heart – a man threw a starfish back into the sea and when asked what difference it really made…he replied that it made a difference to that starfish. Every small notion counts, and Amber demonstrates that in everything she does and is.

Friends, isn’t that Lehigh Valley Beautiful to you?

xoxo,

Jessica

P.S. Need a cake for an upcoming birthday or event?  Check out Amber’s business Konception Kakes!  We recently had a family birthday party that I had Amber create a custom cake for, not only did it looked amazing but tasted delish!

Summertime in the Lehigh Valley | Allentown Family Photographer

The 4th of July is right around the corner which means that summer is officially in full swing!  For many of us, we have been looking forward to summer for months…especially my fellow teacher friends! 😉  We’ve been making mental or physical lists of all the things we want to do, places to go, and things to get accomplished.  I know my “I’ll do it over Summer” list is ridiculously long and is basically a Mission Impossible to get it all done, especially since I’m adding to it on a daily basis.  Anyone else like that?!  I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out my plan of attack so that by the end of the summer I feel like I got a lot accomplished….and by planning I mean procrastinating in every way.

So as any good procrastinator would do, I started looking through photos of my kids from last year.  I found myself looking back at some of their fun activities and daily summer antics and smiling. I am so grateful to have these details of their everyday summer moments documented because here’s the truth:  KIDS GROW WAY TOO FAST!  My to do list will always be there but this extra time I have with my kids won’t.  Now, I’m wondering what are going to be this summer’s moments (big and small)?!

This sparked an idea!  I want to see your everyday summer moments, both big and small!   Let’s make it a competition! Share them with me and you’ll be entered to win a mini session.  To get all the details of how to enter, click here.

I can’t wait to see the details that make up your summer moments!

Happy Clicking!

Jessica

Full Circle- The G Twins Turn 1 | Lehigh Valley Family Photographer

This past April, I celebrated my one year anniversary of being Jessica Stopper Photography.  To say that this year has been amazing would be a huge understatement!  This journey has brought so many incredible people into my life, re-inspired my love of learning, and changed how I look at everyday moments.  To all of you who have been a part of my journey, I am so grateful for you.

To honor this milestone, I needed to go back to where it first started, my very first session, the newborn twins I photographed.  You may remember these two cuties…

One year later, these two had a milestone to celebrate as well, and of course I needed to document it!  This session was meant to be because we had a stretch of crazy warm weather for early spring, which made it perfect for an outdoor shoot, and the Allentown Rose Gardens was the perfect setting.  What a difference a year makes!  I couldn’t get enough of her beautiful eyes, seriously gorgeous.  His adventurous personality came out when he saw the balloons.  The best part was the cake smash!  He wanted his cake and then some of hers!

My job as a Lehigh Valley family photographer has been such a blessing.  I can’t wait to share more from some of my fabulous client’s sessions!   If you’d like to learn more about JSP, sign up to become a JSP Insider  or feel free to contact me at jessica@jessicastopperphotography.com.
